about us

Developing the early learning workforce is single most effective way to produce better outcomes for young children. Early Wins was founded to provide teachers, directors, coaches and other professionals with free, anytime access to transformative professional learning experiences to help them make a profound difference in the lives of millions of children. Professional learning for the early childhood workforce needs to be grounded in what we know about child development and adult learning, aligned with standards and expectations, and sustained over time rather than “one-shot” trainings that have minimal impact. It also needs to be engaging, supportive and interactive so learners get on a professional career path. Our approach is to change professional development systems, not just to provide training. We are deeply committed to transforming the early childhood workforce with supportive, intentional, culturally responsive professional learning, coaching resources and public policy support.

our solution

is building a workforce solution to develop the skills of the early childhood workforce while leveraging public policy to improve outcomes for teachers and children.

Co-founder and CEO

Dr. Abby Thorman is a national expert in early childhood systems development with 25 years of experience. She has a wide range of experience, from helping to implement and standardize child development programs for the armed forces in Europe, leading a bi-state early childhood initiative, being a policy advisor to a governor, working for a philanthropic foundation, and consulting in over two dozen states and with national organizations. She has led efforts that have significantly increased public early childhood investments in multiple states and raised over $400 million to fund early childhood innovations. Most recently she has overseen the development and implementation of an innovative blended professional development system in Florida that has delivered over 650,000 hours of professional development in less than four years and launched and implemented the nation's largest early childhood coaching certification; a rigorous evaluation by Yale has shown the courses and the coaching significantly improve early childhood program quality, adult-child interactions, and children's outcomes. She holds a PhD in Family Studies and Human Services and masters degrees in early childhood education and in human relations; her dissertation research was funded by the Head Start Bureau as one of ten national research fellows. Abby lives in Denver with her two daughters, two dogs, and a cat, and loves to travel around the world, read, do yoga, explore her new state, and get back to the ocean as often as possible.
