Wonder Stories is built off of 7 years of research starting at the MIT Media Lab and using psychophysiological sensors to study why kids don’t like to read.

Elliott

Hedman

Experience Designer

I bring 10 years of research experience, combining the rigor and technological knowhow of MIT with the innovation and human centered design approach of IDEO. I specialize in measuring and designing for children’s emotional needs. My work emphasizes the importance of prototyping, evaluating with emotional sensors, and applied, real world research. I founded mPath, a Design Research company that helps organizations understand their users. Together with mPath, I have experiences:

• Designing the Digital Experience for Online Learning Tools at Curriculum Associates
• Designing the game of experience of Education.com
• Evaluating the app experience of Toca TV
• Innovating the experience for Sphero’s Ollie and BB8 robots
• Making LEGO Technic more accessible with a digital add on
• Redesigning board game instructions with Hasbro
• Evaluating the reading program of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Denver
• I’ve also worked with Fortune 500 companies such as Best Buy, Estee Lauder, Google, Lowe's, and others.

In all of these projects I worked with organizations to help them better understand children’s emotional experiences with their products. I use ethnographic methods, eye tracking, and psychophysiological sensors to describe people's subconscious experience – a process I invented as part of my Ph.D. at the MIT Media Lab. I then prototype solutions, a process I learned while working at Google X. In all of my work, I iterate daily on emotional challenges, co-creating new solutions that address children’s emotional needs.

Now, I'm creating Wonder Stories. I've built the company up: programming in Unity, conducting user research, hiring authors and illustrators, and building a business plan. I've enjoyed the creative freedom and challenge bringing design to a new innovative business space.
